This wine is exclusively produced from Riesling grapes grown only in the steep, rocky vineyard of Goldtröpfchen (whose name means ‘little gold drop’). This vineyard is located above the village of Piesportand is one of the best-known sites in the Mosel. Due to the extreme bend of the river at this point, the vineyard is shaped like an amphitheatre which faces south, helping the grapes ripen. The wine is also designated ‘Spätlese’: which means that the grapes are harvested later and riper than Kabinett or other levels of Riesling wine. With its lovely lemon-green colour, expect an evocative nose of subtle green and red apple, stony/flinty mineral aromas and even a hint of white flowers. On the palate the wine is medium-dry to medium-sweet with naturally high refreshing acidity (in fact, it is sweeter than it tastes because of the high acid). But it’s still relatively light in body as the alcohol is low: which means you can easily enjoy more than a glass or two! On the finish, this is an extremely elegant and subtle wine with very long length. Classic Mosel Riesling!

In 1978, Annegret Reh-Gartner’s father, acquired WeingutReichsgraf von Kesselstatt in Trier, in the Mosel region of Germany. It was at that time that Annegret Reh-Gartner discovered her love for wine and decided to pursue a career in viticulture, a profession still dominated by men in those days. Her pleasure in the product and deep devotion to her native region as well as her quality consciousness and years of contact with customers at home and abroad all helped Reichsgraf von Kesselstattachieve international renown. In addition to the many awards that the estate and its wines have earned over the years, she personally was recognized, in 1989 as “Vintner of the Year” in Germany and was nominated for this “wine industry Oscar” again in both 2001 and 2005. Following Annegret’s legacy, Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt continues to make some of the very best Mosel Riesling!
